All about Cafeteria Pop in Mérida, Mexico

The long-standing establishment Cafeteria Pop (with Restaurante Pórtico del Peregrino) is two blocks north of Plaza Grande and has been a local favorite since 1971.

Eat where the locals eat: It's not super cozy or particularly fancy, but tasty, cheap, prompt and consistent. Both American style and Mexican options. And so Cafeteria Pop is considered by many locals as one of the best places in town for breakfast. Between 9:00 am and 10:00 am it is most crowded.

The decor of Cafeteria Pop is accentuated by murals but the interior is quit simple and perhaps also a bit old fashion. There is an open air courtyard with lots of greenery. In addition to the large cafe and garden area there is also a lovely lounge area.

Check out their breakfast combi meals which includes coffee or tea such as Mexican eggs, toasted bread with butter, a fruit cup and coffee or tea. Or try dishes like Huevos Motuleños, Enchiladas de pollo and Molletes.

Cafeteria Pop is very centrally located, roughly between the Parque de Santa Lucía and the Plaza Grande. As the café is located diagonally opposite the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán.

So it is naturally also a meeting place for students. In addition, it is open quite late every day, until 10:30 in the evening. Cafe Márago is located a few meters to the right.
