All about Fundación de Artistas in Mérida, Mexico

Fundación de Artistas is a legal nonprofit organization. Opened in February 2015, the foundation was created with the vision to be the center for the arts in the Yucatan Peninsula, challenging the definition of art to promote the individuality of the artists.

Fundación de Artistas is a rather unknown place, at least for the non-residents. There is only a small, inconspicuous sign on the front of the house and Google Maps does not know Fundación de Artistas either. Thus, the place has earned the status of insider tip a little bit.

They provide a space to showcase rotating art exhibits in a colonial home in the historic center. Fundación de Artistas also hosts a number of programs to engage and educate the community in Mérida and the Yucatán.

Attention, the Fundación de Artistas is apparently permanently closed.

Boutique store and small cafe

Behind every door in Mérida is a secret. As is often the case, the foundation building is rather unimpressive from the outside, but when you enter and leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind, another world awaits you.

In the back patio you can find an open-to-the-sky courtyard with an old carousel from the 30's surrounded by tables to have a cup of delicious coffee or a dessert, because Fundación de Artistas also offers a small cafe.

Furthermore there is a beautiful boutique store and they also have a hotel next door with a spa. Enjoy the unique atmosphere and have a relaxed time. If you are lucky, a pianist will play classical music.
