Grand Hotel de Mérida
The time-honored Grand Hotel de Mérida in a neoclassical building with an open, high-ceilinged reception hall and gorgeous architectural details was opened back in 1901.
The hotel is located directly on the Parque de Hidalgo, one block from the Plaza Grande and has an eventful past behind it. The historic establishment is full of antiques and old grandeur.
It is definitely worth taking a look at the hotel's beautiful lobby with its antique furniture. There is also antique furniture on display from an antique store that you can buy.
If you like to stay overnight
As an overnight guest, you should be aware that the age of the hotel is also reflected in the rather small rooms and partly worn furniture. Some people will find the worn corners and a little dust in some areas authentic, others will probably not like it as much.
There is no elevator and no swimming pool but air conditioning and television have been installed in the meantime. Some rooms adjacent to the neighboring building on the left have no windows to the outside. By the way, the hotel offers day tours to nearby destinations.
Parque de Hidalgo
The very central location of the Grand Hotel de Mérida right next to the Parque de Hidalgo is of course a big plus point, because you are right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city (if you want to be).
The building also houses a Starbucks and a Helados Santa Clara ice cream parlor on the ground floor. This makes it a great place for a stopover when it's hot in Mérida. I like to sit on one of the park's shady benches under a tree with an ice cream.
