Museo de la Canción Yucateca
Museo de la Canción Yucateca (Museum of Yucatecan Music) is located a few meters from Parque de la Mejorada, in the district of the same name.
The museum of Yucatecan song, founded in 1978, has the slogan "Una puerta al mundo de la música romántica" - a door to the world of romantic music.
Trova music in Merida is a significant cultural expression, deeply rooted in the Yucatecan tradition. It encompasses various styles and themes, often featuring poetic lyrics accompanied by acoustic guitars or other traditional instruments.
It is perhaps a somewhat unusual museum in Mérida, but that is why it was exclusively created: to pay tribute to the great Yucatecan composers and singers.
In the entrance area, three life-size sculptures of Pepe Domínguez (a well-known composer), Guty Cárdenas and Ricardo Palmerín (two trova singers) greet you directly.
Inside, more than 50 oil portraits of composers, singers, poets, and promoters of Yucatecan song are exhibited.
Furthermore, there are song lyrics, manuscripts, photographs, original instruments of the artists, antique songbooks and original scores. You can also hear musical pieces in the various salons while taking your tour.
You will also find a video salon, a sculpture museum, a cafeteria, a small theater, and a museum store. In addition to its own website, you can also find the museum on Facebook and on Instagram.
