Nahualli Art Gallery
The Nahualli Art Gallery (Nahualli Casa de los Artistas) is one of the most interesting art galleries in Mérida - although this is of course very subjective.
There is a lively art scene in Mérida and there are many galleries. Galería Nahualli is right in the city center, opposite the church of Santa Anna (Parroquia de Santa Ana).
It is a family of artists consisting of father, mother and one of the two daughters (Melba Medina, Abel Vasquez and Aura Meztli) who live, work and exhibit in a beautifully restored old colonial house. The exhibition is complemented by the works of other artists.
The contemporary works feature sculptures and drawings based on the mythology of the Aztec, Mayan and other Mexican cultures. They are a brilliant integration of indigenous themes into modern art.
Paintings, prints, etchings, lithographs or sculptures in bronze and resin can be seen and purchased. The restored colonial house from the turn of the last century was once an orphanage.
There are also other art galleries nearby. Other well-known art galleries in Mérida include La Sala Art Gallery, Galeria La Eskalera, Galeria Mérida, Soho Galleries, Fundacion de Artistas or Lux Perpetua Art Centre.
You can also find the Nahualli Gallery on Facebook.
