All about Parque Arqueo-Botánico Anikabil in Mérida

Parque Arqueo-Botánico Anikabil is located next to Parque Zoológico Bicentenario Animaya on the western outskirts in the neighborhood Ciudad Caucel.

It is one of the large nature parks on the outskirts of the city, which offers little infrastructure, but long hiking trails where you can jog or, for example, walk your dog (they must be leashed).

Even though the park is officially called "Botanical Garden", you should not imagine a well-kept structured garden with accurate signs among the neatly planted flowers in rows. It's basically a fenced-in piece of wild nature with some paths.

The loop trail is 3.7km long and you will probably be mostly alone. The park should actually have been improved in 2023. Some benches, picnic tables, garbage cans and bike racks were installed, but unfortunately not much more was done.

There are some dirty and vandalized areas, so the park can only be recommended to a limited extent and there are better alternatives.

Hacienda Anikabil

Separated by a few streets of residential area, a little further north is Hacienda Anikabil. The area has been converted into a public park that still has some original parts of the hacienda.
